The much-awaited Mumbai Metro Line 3, also called the Aqua Line, officially started operations on Thursday, October 9. The metro connects Aarey JVLR to Cuffe Parade, covering major residential and commercial hubs across Mumbai. This is Mumbai’s first underground metro line, marking a major step forward in the city’s public transport system.

Over 1.5 Lakh Passengers on Day One

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) announced that a total of 1,56,456 passengers travelled on the Aqua Line on its first day. The strong response showed how eagerly Mumbaikars were waiting for this service. Commuters from across the city praised the metro for its speed, comfort, and convenience.

A Big Relief for Daily Commuters

The Aqua Line aims to reduce traffic congestion on Mumbai’s busy roads and cut down travel time between the suburbs and South Mumbai. The fully underground route connects key areas like Aarey, BKC, Worli, Churchgate, and Cuffe Parade, making it easier for people to travel without road traffic delays.

Temporary Closure at Vidhan Bhavan Station

On the first day, there was a brief issue at Vidhan Bhavan Metro Station due to heavy passenger turnout during evening hours. Officials said that one of the seven entry gates was closed for about 10 minutes to manage the crowd safely. The situation was quickly handled, and the station reopened shortly after.

PM Modi Inaugurates the Final Phase

The third and final phase of the Aqua Line was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, October 8. Speaking during the event, PM Modi said that better connectivity is key to a city’s development. He also called the Aqua Line a big step for Mumbai’s infrastructure and public transport growth.

A New Era for Mumbai’s Connectivity

With the launch of the Aqua Line, Mumbai has entered a new era of urban transport. The underground metro will not only make travel faster and safer but will also help reduce pollution and make city travel more sustainable. The success on the first day shows that Mumbaikars are ready to embrace this modern change in their daily commute.
