Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to visit Andhra Pradesh on October 16th, starting with a spiritual and historical tour in Srisailam before heading to Kurnool to inaugurate, lay the foundation stone, and dedicate multiple development projects worth approximately Rs 13,430 crore.
Spiritual and Historical Stops in Srisailam
The PM’s day begins in Srisailam, Nandyal district, where he will perform Pooja and Darshan at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Varla Devasthanam around 11:15 AM. This temple is unique as it is one of the 12 Jyotirlings and one of the 52 Shakti Peeths, a rare coexistence in the same premises. Following the temple visit, around 12:15 PM, he will visit the Sree Shivaji Spoorthi Kendra, a memorial complex honoring Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s historic visit in 1677. The complex features a meditation hall with models of four iconic forts and a central statue of the great Maratha ruler.
Major Infrastructure Boost in Kurnool
The Prime Minister will then travel to Kurnool for an event scheduled around 2:30 PM, where he will launch projects covering crucial sectors like industry, power transmission, roads, railways, defence manufacturing, and petroleum and natural gas. These initiatives are intended to enhance regional infrastructure, speed up industrialization, and drive socio-economic growth across the state.
Strengthening Power, Industry, and Connectivity
A significant project is the foundation stone laying for the Transmission System Strengthening at Kurnool-III Pooling Station, a $2,880 crore investment that includes a 765 KV double-circuit transmission line. This will boost renewable energy transmission capacity. Additionally, the PM will lay the foundation for two new industrial areas: the Orvakal Industrial Area in Kurnool and the Kopparthy Industrial Area in Kadapa. These modern industrial hubs, costing over $4,920 crore, are designed with a “walk-to-work” concept and are expected to attract $21,000 crore in investments, creating approximately one lakh jobs in the Rayalaseema region.
Road and Rail Development
Connectivity will see a major upgrade with the foundation stone for the six-lane Greenfield Highway from Sabbavaram to Sheelanagar ($960 crore) to ease congestion in Visakhapatnam. The PM will also inaugurate six completed road projects worth $1,140 crore, improving safety and reducing travel time. In the railway sector, projects worth over $1,200 crore will be launched or dedicated, including the foundation stone for the Kottavalasa-Vizianagaram Fourth Railway Line and the dedication of doubling projects like the Kottavalasa-Boddavara section, aiming to reduce congestion and facilitate the movement of passengers and freight.
Energy and Defence Self-Reliance
In the energy sector, the PM will dedicate the Srikakulam–Angul Natural Gas Pipeline of GAIL India Limited ($1,730 crore) and inaugurate Indian Oil’s new LPG bottling plant at Chittoor ($200 crore). This plant will serve over 7.2 lakh customers across seven districts in three southern states, ensuring a reliable LPG supply. Finally, to promote defence self-reliance, the Advanced Night Vision Products Factory at Nimmaluru, Krishna district, established by Bharat Electronics Limited ($360 crore), will be dedicated. This facility will manufacture advanced electro-optical systems for the Indian Defence Forces.
