Kinet Railway Solutions, an Indo-Russian joint venture, has unveiled the design for the First AC coach of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train at the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025 in New Delhi. This reveal marks a major step in the modernization of long-distance rail travel in India.
A New Standard for Comfort and Elegance
The new First AC coach design prioritizes passenger comfort and a premium travel experience. The four-berth compartments are described as spacious and bright, incorporating modern and sophisticated features.
Innovative Design Features
The interior design uses soft tones and warm metallic accents to create an elegant atmosphere. Each passenger will have a comfortable space with practical amenities, including built-in USB ports, individual reading lights, and smart storage solutions. Adding a touch of Indian culture, the cabin is framed by a subtle national-style motif created using traditional block printing techniques.
Manufacturing and Rollout Schedule
Kinet Railway Solutions has a contract to supply a total of 120 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, which translates to 1,920 coaches, to Indian Railways. The manufacturing will take place at the modernized Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur, Maharashtra. Production is expected to increase significantly by the end of 2025, with the first prototype train slated for unveiling in June 2026.
A Faster, Safer Future for Long-Distance Travel
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is a key part of Indian Railways’ plan to improve its services. This sleeper version is designed to be faster, safer, and more comfortable than existing premium long-distance services, like the Rajdhani Express. Once the second train is fully ready for regular service, the new sleeper service is expected to officially commence.
