The Live Info Media
The Adani Group is undertaking the construction of a major ropeway project to make the pilgrimage to Kedarnath Dham significantly easier and safer for devotees. Group Chairman Gautam Adani announced the project, which he described as a blend of “devotion and modern infrastructure.”
Cutting Travel Time from 9 Hours to 36 Minutes
The ropeway, which has a total investment of Rs 4,081 crore, will connect Sonprayag with Kedarnath. Once operational, this 12.9 km-long link will drastically cut down the strenuous travel time. The current arduous trek of about nine hours will be reduced to just 36 minutes, directly benefiting lakhs of pilgrims who visit the holy site each year. The system is designed to carry 1,800 passengers per hour per direction.
Project Details and Scope
The project is the first ropeway for Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) and is being built under the government’s National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana. AEL received the Letter of Award (LoA) from the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) and will execute the project on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis. The construction is expected to be completed in six years, and AEL will then operate the ropeway for a period of 29 years. Beyond improving connectivity, the project is also expected to create new jobs and boost tourism in the Uttarakhand region.
