Ravi Naik, Goa’s two-time former chief minister and current agriculture minister, died late Tuesday from a cardiac arrest at his home in Ponda, about 30 kilometers from Panaji. The 79-year-old, a seven-time MLA from Ponda, had a long career including roles as home and finance minister, where he advocated for farmers’ land rights through movements like the Mundkarial agitation. Leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid tributes to his public service, with his funeral scheduled for Wednesday with state honors.

Goa has lost a major political figure with the death of former Chief Minister and current Agriculture Minister, Ravi Naik. He passed away last night at the age of 79 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Throughout his long career, Mr. Naik held several important posts, including the top job of Chief Minister, and was known as a respected and dedicated leader in Goan politics.

He specifically noted Ravi Naik’s passion for uplifting and empowering the poor and marginalized groups. The Prime Minister extended his thoughts and support to Mr. Naik’s family and supporters during this difficult time.
