Deputy Commissioner of Police (Lucknow South) Nipun Agarwal stressed the critical need for families and authorities to be watchful over digital addiction, warning that these platforms are driving young people into debt traps and can lead to violent results. Nikhil has been charged with murder, evidence tampering, and misappropriation of the deceased’s property.

A deeply disturbing incident occurred in Lucknow where a college student named Nikhil, a BA student, was arrested for killing his own mother. The motive behind this tragic crime was his extreme addiction to an online gambling game called “Aviator” on a banned platform. Nikhil had lost a large sum of money to this game, leading him to rack up significant debt by taking out multiple high-interest loans from predatory lending apps like mPokket and Flash Wallet, which often have hidden charges.

Desperate and unable to repay these debts, Nikhil began stealing his mother’s jewelry. When his mother eventually confronted him about the theft, a violent argument erupted. In a terrible sequence of events, Nikhil allegedly attacked her with a screwdriver before fatally bludgeoning her with an LPG cylinder. To cover up his crime, he then ransacked the house to make it look like a robbery, stole his mother’s ornaments, and fled the scene on his father’s motorcycle.

Nikhil later tried to deceive his father by falsely claiming that unknown attackers were responsible for the murder. However, a joint police team from Lucknow’s PGI police station, along with the surveillance cell and crime unit, successfully tracked him down. They located and arrested him in the Fatehpur district. During the investigation, the police recovered the stolen jewelry, the murder weapon, and other crucial evidence. When questioned, Nikhil confessed to the crime, claiming he acted out of panic.
