Trump says we’re peacekeepers because of tariffs, cites India-Pak for the 9th time

President Donald Trump has again claimed that his use of tariffs (trade taxes) was responsible for preventing multiple global conflicts, specifically mentioning a war between India and Pakistan. He stated that the threat of cutting off trade made the US a “peacekeeping nation.” Trump boasted that without the power of tariffs, several major wars, including the India-Pakistan conflict where he claims “seven planes were shot down,” would have continued. He also suggested he deserves the Nobel Prize for “ending seven wars,” arguing that about 60% of them were stopped due to his trade leverage.

However, India has repeatedly and firmly rejected Trump’s account. India maintains that the decision to stop the fighting with Pakistan was reached through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries’ armies. India denies that any outside country or leader, including the US and its trade tariffs, played a role in mediating or influencing the de-escalation of the conflict, directly countering Trump’s version of events
